SMALL-BATCH ISN'T A BUZZWORD.HERE'S WHAT IT ACTUALLY MEANS.
You've probably seen "small-batch" used by a lot of brands lately. When we started using the term we hadn't seen it used, other than on bourbon, now we see it everywhere - candles, soaps, hot sauce — many things seem to be small-batch these days. So let's be straight with you about what it means here, and what it doesn't.
What small-batch means at Appalachian Craftsman:
Every product we make is mixed, poured, cut, shaped, or finished by hand, in real, limited quantities. Not because we can't figure out how to scale. Because scaling would change what the product is.
Our candles are poured in small runs so we can monitor every batch for scent throw, burn quality, and finish. Our soaps take weeks to cure properly, you can't rush cold process. Our hardwood goods are shaped from locally sourced Appalachian wood, and no two pieces of wood are identical.
When you order from us, you're not getting unit #4,872 off a conveyor belt. You're getting something that someone made with their hands and their full attention.

What it means for quality:
Small runs mean we catch problems. We adjust. We hold things to a standard that's genuinely hard to maintain at volume. It also means the ingredients and materials we use are better. We're not locked into industrial suppliers and bulk contracts. We source what's right for the product, not what's cheapest at scale.
A note for commercial buyers:
We work with boutique retailers, restaurants, breweries, barbershops, salons, and companies looking for something real to put in front of their customers or send to their clients.
If that's you — yes, we do wholesale. And yes, the same standard applies. We're not going to cut corners on a wholesale order. What you get is what we'd be proud to put our name on, every time.

The honest part:
There are things we can't do. We can't turn around a rush order of 500 units by next week. We don't have a warehouse full of backup inventory. Some things sell out and take time to restock.
We think that's okay. Actually, we think it's good.
Because the alternative — warehouses, assembly lines, cutting the formula to hit a price point — isn't something we're willing to do. Not to the product, and not to you.
